Lucy Scarborough is only 17, but she carries the burden of a curse that has already struck down several women in her family. Each of her afflicted ancestors failed at completing three seemingly impossible tasks, and each succumbed to madness at the birth of her first child. Facing this tragic fate, Lucy braces herself for a losing battle. Mercifully, she has allies in her struggle: intensely sympathetic foster parents and her loyal childhood friend Zach.

Phoebe finds herself drawn to Mallory, the strange and secretive new kid in school, and the two girls become as close as sisters . . . until Mallory's magnetic older brother, Ryland, shows up during their junior year. Ryland has an immediate, exciting hold on Phoebe, but a dangerous hold, for she begins to question her feelings about her best friend and, worse, about herself. Soon she'll discover the shocking truth about Ryland and Mallory: that these two are visitors from the faerie realm who have come to collect on an age-old debt. Generations ago, the faerie queen promised Pheobe's ancestor five extraordinary sons in exchange for the sacrifice of one ordinary female heir. But in hundreds of years there hasn't been a single ordinary girl in the family, and now the faeries are dying. Could Phoebe be the first ordinary one? Could she save the faeries, or is she special enough to save herself?

ReplyDeleteI’d like to win EXTRAORDINARY!

And here are my answers (this was fun!)….
~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...
I would be named after a bird because I love them, but probably something silly like an Emu.
Long ago and far away, there was a gawky young maiden named Emu, who didn’t put her head in the sand like other girls…
~Best fairy tale villain and why?
Ursula from THE LITTLE MERMAID. She’s got a great set of singing pipes—I don’t know why she needed to steal Ariel’s. Oh, yes, to get the Trident…
~Favorite tale from childhood?
I always liked Snow White because all the forest creatures hung out with her while she so joyfully cleaned the house of the dwarves.
~Favorite tale as an adult?
Ever After. I like the retelling of Cinderella. Plus, we watched it on a college class on modern fairytale heroines.
~Least favorites?
I never liked Hansel and Gretel. I mean, what terrible names! What a terrible story.
~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
I’d be SLEEPING BEAUTY because she gets to sleep through all the bad stuff. I’m just not that adventurous.
~Would you rather ... and Why:
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
All alone in a high tower. Better than living with a grump, plus I could read books and braid my hair. That’s entertainment.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
Pumpkin Carriage, baby! I mean, it’s horse-drawn and everything. I have foot issues, so those glass slippers would be terrible on my arches.
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
Prince Charming. If I had him, I wouldn’t need the fairy godmother.
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
Both sound so tasty…I can’t decide. The beans might give me gas though.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
Polish the slippers. I’d like to think that Windex would give them a nice, streak-free shine.
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
I’m a crafty girl, so I think I could handle spinning straw into gold for hours on end. Again, I have high arches…that dancing would be killer.
Entering!

Question: If you could be any fairy tale character, who would it be?
I'd be Belle from The Beauty and The Beast. She's honest, opinionated, and loves to read! Plus, I love that she sees a person's true colors before judging their outside appearances. :)
I'd be happy to win either book! I haven't read them both yet! :)
ReplyDelete~Favorite tale from childhood?
Cinderella-I loved reading this story as a kid! I guess the whole princess thing did it for me!
~Favorite tale as an adult?
Rupunzel-Probably because Tangled recently came out and my favorite re-telling of a fairy tale is Rapunzel.
~Least favorites?
Beauty and the Beast...at least re-tellings of the story(or at least the retelling I read)
~Would you rather ... and Why:
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?-HIGH TOWER! no trolls for me thank you! :)
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)? PUMPKIN CARRIAGE! I'm horrible at wearing high heels anymore. Having kids and everything...I'm all about the flip-flops!
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming? PRINCE CHARMING! A fairy godmother is only needed to get you Prince Charming, haha.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
POLISH SLIPPERS! I'm horrible at doing hair...
jacindahinten(at)gmail(dot)com
This sounds fun!
ReplyDelete- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
A tower for sure. I am hoping that in that tower there are books. I want to be in the tower alone too! No trolls and no kids interrupting my reading every five minutes!
- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
I am thinking that the glass slippers would not be so bad. At least they would be pretty and match everything!
- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
That is an easy one! A fairy God Mother! Everyone knows Prince Charming is not real! Besides if I have a fairy godmother she can make me a prince charming!
- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
What kind of magic beans are we talking about here? I don't really wanna have beanstalks in my stomach. Also gold eggs don't seem great for my digestion either. I guess I will go with the beans.
- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
I am going with the slippers on this one because they can not complain about how long it is taking!
- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
Do you have any idea how much weight I could loose if I had to dance all night every night? That is like a dream come true! I hate to exercise but I love to dance! Actually can we see about making this happen?
BooksDevoured at gmail.com =D
I don't particularly have a preference if I win. Both sound really good.
ReplyDelete~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...
Doodle. My dad has called me that since I was four.
"Outside Doodle's window was a deer, a rabbit, and a bird. They all spoke, of course. This wouldn't be a fairy tale if they didn't."
~Best fairy tale villain and why?
The Big Bad Wolf from the Three Little Pigs. Have you ever read "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs"? All the Wolf was trying to do is borrow a cup of sugar to bake his grandmother a birthday cake.
~Favorite tale from childhood?
~Favorite tale as an adult?
~Least favorites?
From both childhood and adult, Peter Pan. From just adult, the Grimm's version of Cinderella. Totally blew my mind compared to the Disney-fied.
Least favorite, Hansel and Gretel.
~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
I'd totally be Belle from Beauty and the Beast. A talking clock? AND that huge library?
~Would you rather ... and Why:
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
Alone in a high tower. I prefer being by myself.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
Ride in a pumpkin. That would be awesome.
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
Fair godmother. Then you can wish for a Prince Charming.
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
I hate beans, so eggs all the way.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
100 pairs of glass slippers. Having 50 feet of hair would probably get heavy after a while.
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
Dance! I'm a dance machine! Plus, I don't like sitting still that long.

I would be named for a rare type of rock that is mined in my village - Bradlecrin.
Mr. Gaultry was a superstitious, greedy man who believed in luck more than work and so, on the day his only daughter was born, he christened her Bradlecrin, hoping that the gods would hear his plea and send him more luck in the mines than in his children, for what good to him was a daughter?
~Best fairy tale villain and why? The troll princess in East (Finnish version of Beauty & the Beast). She's obsessed with humans enough to steal them from our world, wants to be like us, thinks she's beautiful, is a rich spoiled brat, and is also a crazy cruel lady. Best one.
~Favorite tale from childhood?
The Red Shoes - A Danish tale. I can't explain why, but the thought of her having to wear the dancing shoes forever was fascinating, and when they amputate her feet and they continue dancing in front of her? grotesque, but it definitely stuck with me as a 5 year old. talk about consequences!
~Favorite tale as an adult? The Twelve Dancing Princesses - I was a dancer so there was an immediate connection, but I ran across a truly gorgeous picture book copy by Ruth Sanderson a little while back and fell in love. Check it out.
~Least favorites?
Puss in Boots. It just never grabbed my attention.
~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
I would love to be in the court when Scheherazade told her tales. She had some fantastic stories!
~Would you rather ... and Why:
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower? If I had books I could do the tower thing just fine. If not, I'd take the troll and the wet over complete solitude any day. I'm a rather social person.
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)? Pumpkin carriage. Love my comforts and don't mind getting messy!
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming? Prince Charming! As much trouble as men can be, Fairy Godmothers are infintely worse. Have you read My Fair Godmother?
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs? I'm fine with beans or eggs, but I'd be afraid the beans would make me taller and in 6th grade my nickname was Beanstalk because I was so tall (I ended up 5'11"). I'd go with the eggs.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers? I actually enjoy mundane tasks like polishing slippers or color coordinating jellybeans (I had that job once). It leaves me free to roam (within my mind) and chat.
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
Dance! As I mentioned before, I was a dancer and loved it. It's such a thrill and I'm a total night owl!
~Rapunzel is named after lettuce; what odd thing would you be named after if you were in a fairy tale? Using that name, give us a line from your life as a fairy tale...
ReplyDeleteIf fairytale is anything like real life I would be named after a scooter (current nickname = scoot) because as a child I scooted all over the place instead of crawling! Of course if I was in a little baby ballgown scooting might not have worked out so well for me! haha.
~Best fairy tale villain and why?
Ohhhh this is a tough one. I think I will go with the the Evil Queen from Snow White - she wanted Snow White's heart cut out and placed in a jewelery box. CREEPY!
~Favorite tale from childhood? Beauty and the beast!!
~Favorite tale as an adult? I think it is the same as a child, Beauty and the Beast... but I also love the movie Ever After which is a twist on Cinderella. :)
~Least favorites?
~If you could be any fairy tale character, or live through any fairy tale "happening," who/what would it be?
I think Beauty and the Beast would be a good way to fall in love. Friendship into love is the way to go!
~Would you rather ... and Why:
-- live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
Alone - I could read books all day!!
-- ride everywhere in a pumpkin carriage (messy) or walk everywhere in glass shoes (uncomfortable)?
I am going with the carriage - I could get a lot further and blisters hurt!
-- have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
Prince Charming!! Who wouldn't?
-- eat magic beans or golden eggs?
I am not a fan of beans, but golden eggs sound hard to eat. I will go with the beans - and just hope a beanstalk doesn't start growing from my stomach! lol.
-- style 50ft long hair or polish 100 pairs of glass slippers?
Shoes all the way - Having all of that hair would be a beast. I can't even imagine it. At least the glass slippers wouldn't get tangled in knots!
-- be forced to spin straw into gold for hours on end, or dance every night until your shoes are worn through?
Dance! I love to dance, so that would be fun in a way - and exhausting.
Thanks for the fun questions and the giveaway! :)

These books sound and look amazing! I'd be more than happy to win either one. Okay, answer time.
ReplyDeleteName: I would probably be named after some kind of since I LOVE to eat. How about...Starfruit.
Best fairy tale villain: Definitely Maleficent. She always scared me as a child...as still does to this day.
Favorite tale: I've always loved fairy tales and make believe, but the story I would always have my mother read is The Twelve Dancing Princesses. I love reading this story to my girls now.
Least favorite: Definitely Rumpelstiltskin. Always gave me the creeps.
Would you rather...
-Live in a tower! Trolls probably smell bad, and I definitely like my alone time.
-Ride in a pumpkin carriage. Although it may be messy, it would definitely be entertaining.
-Fairy Godmother. I've already found Prince Charming.
-Eat magic beans. I'm not a fan of eggs, even if they are made of gold.
-Polish 100 paris of glass slippers. I'm at a point where my hairs getting really long (not quite 50 feet), but I'm so sick of doing it.
-Dance every night!

Thanks for the fun & creative contest! I would love to win either of these books, or BOTH if I am lucky! :)
ReplyDelete1. Would I rather live under a bridge with a troll, or all alone in a high tower?
I would like to live all alone in a high tower because most of the time I prefer to spend time alone. This is mainly because people bug me! (not all people and not ALL of the time! :)
2. Would I rather have have a fairy godmother or a Prince Charming?
That's easy! I would definitely choose the Fairy Godmother because she could grant me all of my wishes (which could be a Prince Charming! ;) She could also advise me not to make stupid wishes! LOL!
